Environment
We can and will get involved
PRIMO focuses on the tightened requirements for optimised environmental management. The company is also taking on more and more responsibility for all environmental considerations linked to the production and use of our plastic products in construction and industry.
Correspondingly, we have become increasingly involved in the production carried out by our joint venture partners and in society's general consumption and disposal of plastic, because we believe that we have a responsibility for both the local environment and for the environment in general. This particularly applies to all the areas where our products are used. Our environmental commitment is expressed through:
- Our use of environmental certifications in our production units
- Our participation in collection schemes and other activities aimed at improving the environment
The environment and production - when targets are realised
Any form of production affects the surrounding environment. Our aim is to limit all forms of adverse impact. That is why during the period 1997 - 2000, we spent over DKK 60 million optimising the environmental aspects of our production equipment and our products. This included:
- The development of environmentally friendly PVC plastic raw materials
- Optimised production technology (extruders)
- Groundwater cooling (Freon-free cooling)
- Waste sorting and management
- Training of staff in environmental management
- Use of environmental certifications (see under the description of each company)
- Collection, crushing and recycling of internal plastic waste
- The treatment of cooling water at the company's own plant and reuse in closed loops without any contact with the surrounding groundwater.
The environment and products - the environmentally friendly alternative?
With its long lifetime and virtually maintenance-free properties, plastic is in itself a superb material in many ways. However, like everyone else, we must of course consider the impact that our products have on the surrounding environment "from cradle to grave".
Goal-orientated product development has meant that we are now a pioneering company and driving force in the development of plastic products which take into consideration the environment as much as possible in production, use and disposal.
- The use of return packaging wherever possible.
- The development of products based on 100% recycled raw materials
- Systematic collection and sorting of waste from external production
- Member of a waste collection scheme for discarded plastic building components, etc.
PVC
For many years, PVC has been the subject of debate amongst environmental organisations and groups. As a result of this, the manufacture, use and disposal of this material is carefully monitored by the authorities.
PRIMO believes that PVC is a good raw material with superior properties for many purposes, but we must not use it unquestioningly, and the issue of disposal must be resolved.
