High strength

Plastic is strong in relation to its weight
Both the impact resistance and bending strength of plastic are high. This means that if low weight and high strength are both priorities, plastic is often chosen in preference to metal. This applies in the car industry for example, where plastic components are increasingly being used to replace metal and in the aviation industry, where even load-bearing wing components can be manufactured from plastic.
